Tomimoto depicts hop in indigo blue in the center of the warm and white inner part of the bowl, and then two further sets of hop on the outside in the ronuki (wax resist) technique. He dedicated his life to creating beautiful craft-like motifs capturing the life of plants through careful observation of nature. This bowl featuring hop motifs was lovingly created for brewery businessman Tamesaburo Yamamoto.
