Twenty years have passed since Asahi Beer Oyamazaki Villa Museum of Art opened in April 1996.
To celebrate the 20th anniversary, we present a special exhibition titled “The Never Ending Journey of Creation” which focuses on stories of “journeys” in creation from past to present.
The exhibition will show a selection of pictures from the museum’s collection, including distinguished early works by Vincent van GOGH(1853-1890) and Pablo PICASSO(1881-1973), landscape paintings of Claude MONET(1840-1926), Paul SIGNAC(1863-1935), and Marc CHAGALL(1887-1985), who drew all over Europe, a portrait painting of Tsuguharu FOUJITA(1886−1968) who travelled thorough Latin America looking for his next form of inspiration, and pieces by
Edgar DEGAS(1834-1917), Amedeo MODIGLIANI(1884-1920), and Pierre-Auguste RENOIR(1841-1919), who found exotic cultures such as Japan, Africa and Oceania as their source of creation.
In addition, it exhibits an ink painting of Bernard LEACH(1887-1979), a potter who played the role of a bridge between East and West, ceramic works of Shoji HAMADA(1894-1978) who learnt pottery techniques in Britain, Okinawa and many different areas, Korean and Japanese crafts handpicked by Noritaka ASAKAWA(1884-1964) , a researcher of Korean old ceramics, and Soetsu YANAGI(1889-1961), a philosopher.
