The Aichi Prefectural Ceramic Museum’s Collection
A Journey through the 7,000-year History of Chinese Pottery at the Oyamazaki Villa

June 1, to September 1, 2024

This exhibition features about 80 works from the Aichi Prefectural Ceramic Museum’s collection to provide an overview of the immeasurably long history of Chinese pottery spanning 7,000 years, from the New Stone Age to the Qing Dynasty. It explores the mysterious world of earthenware and displays burial accessories, such as multicolored vessels and building-shaped objects that reproduce the everyday world. Through representative masterpieces of celebrated kilns around China, the exhibition also showcases many pottery techniques that have influenced the rest of the world, including qinghua blue-and-white and wucai polychrome decoration. A highlight of the exhibition is the combination of this gorgeous Chinese pottery with the impressive architecture of the century-old Oyamazaki Villa, whose interior design incorporates ancient Chinese elements.
