The long neck emerging from sloping shoulders with a skewed, elliptic head on top, and both hands crossed on the knees, all represent the characteristic features of Modigliani’s portraits. His style is said to have been influenced by the sculptor Brâncuşi, as well as the fourteenth-century Sienese School of Painting, and African sculpture. The identity of the girl is unknown, but it is thought she was called “Jeanne” or “Huguette.”
