While the water lilies depicted in Monet’s paintings seem to be growing naturally, they were in fact painted carefully according to Monet’s detailed plans. He used to arrange water lilies in different colors in bowels, placing them on the pond in his garden while combining colors he liked. In the vivid red water lily petals at the bottom of the canvas we can see the influence of trends in gardening at the time.
