This unique and mysterious plate was designed by Kanjiro Kawai. Kawai preferred to make this type of ceramic work. Here the Chinese ceramic coloring technique of hoka is used, which employs thick lines so as to avoid blending two or more glazes, painting the glaze inside and outside the lines. The smooth lines, along with the image of a bird eating a flower depicted in vivid brown, black, and green, add up to form an outstanding work.
