The mysterious mix of blue and white colors catch our eyes. The glaze on the bottom of the bowel inside a bowel shows a typically beautiful aesthetic by the potter who was called the “wizard of glazes.” The namako glaze is characteristic of Naraoka ware in Akita Prefecture and the shape of this lipped bowel is thought to be an imitation of bowels in the Tohoku region. It embodies Kawai’s research findings when he was seeking out his creative direction in ordinary folk kilns.
