A henko is a container with a body in the shape of a gong. It is created through shaping a circular body on a potter's wheel, and then slapping both sides of it while it is still soft in order to create a flat surface. There are examples of the same technique in China, the Korean peninsula, and European countries. This exceptional work features vividly drawn motifs, sugar cane on one side and bamboo leaves on the other side.
