Side Table (Joseon Dynasty Korea)

19th century

While furniture from the Joseon dynasty in principle follows its Chinese counterpart, Korea eventually built up a particular style in accordance with its natural features, weather, distinctive materials, and lifestyle. Unlike its Chinese predecessor known for its precise detail, Joseon furniture has a sense of generosity equipped with original taste and style.

The line engraving pattern on the front makes the double doors look like drawers at first glance, revealing typical features from the era. It was kept at Mikuni-so, where it is recorded in photographs taken there at the time.
