Tiles, stoneware Delft ware with white glaze (The Netherlands)
18-19th century
Length13×Width13cm

Delft in the Netherlands prospered in the eighteenth century when the country's tile industry reached its peak. While factories were located nationwide, including at Rotterdam and Utrecht, this style is generally known as Delftware.
The image of children playing arranged in the center was a popular motif at the time. Landscapes, animals, ships, and scenes from the Bible were also popular—a whole variety of worlds expressed on a five-inch square space.
